Everyone, Cassius. Cassius, Everyone!

I would like to introduce you to Cassius.  I met him last weekend at the Hyde Park Street Fair.  I was casually sitting in the grass surrounded by friends and family when everyone’s attention quickly drew to something behind me. As I turned around, I was nose-to-snout with an Old English Bulldog named Cassius.  His owner told us he is thirteen years old (which explains his slow and sad hobble from admirer-to-admirer) but obviously not scared of meeting new people.  Unable to do anything but laugh at this floppy tongue and big round eyes, I snapped a photo of his seemingly-smiling mug.

Although there are four different Cassius pictures, I liked this one the best.  It’s just him.  No toes of people sitting beside his frail, stubby body.  No hands petting his sad little aching back.  Just his smiling face and bright, happy eyes.  (P.S. The picture is not cropped or Photoshopped in any way – he was that close to me!)  I feel like this picture captures more of his spirit than he is able to express in his old age.  A spirit that will long outlive this stubby little creature.

Good boy, Cassius.  Good boy!

Great Pic! I agree, it really does capture his happy spirit despite a worn body.

He is a stud! That nose is showing some wear, but he’s like “whatever, you got any food on your or anything like that?”
